About Grace Emily
Grace was born with Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus, and is an AMAZING little girl! Several hours after she was born she had major surgery to close the open lesion on her spine. She was 4 days old before we could hold her because her surgery site needed time to heal. When she was 7 days old she had a vp shunt placed to drain the excess cerebral spinal fluid out of her brain and into her abdomen. She has had multiple surgeries on her eyes to help correct the nystagmus and strabismus (without success, but that’s ok because we love her crooked little eyes!)
Grace wears leg braces and uses a reverse walker to get around. Watch your toes if she runs past you!! She will occasionally use a wheelchair and is learning to use her hot pink forearm crutches. NOW I CAN has opened a whole new world of possibilities for Grace, like taking more than 6 steps with her crutches! Or giving us hope that she can someday walk unasissted!
Grace is an incredibly brave and strong girl, and is such an inspiration to everyone! We are so grateful to call her our daughter!
